Justice denied

The father of a young Co Kildare teacher who died when her car was struck in a head-on collision, blasted the legal system this week, which he says failed his child.
“There has been no justice for my girl. I didn’t want someone to be sent away for life, I just wanted someone to be responsible for her death. Now we have to live with that court result for the rest of our lives. Our family is broken and our hearts are in pieces,” a heartbroken Charlie O’Connor told the Kildare Post this week.
Speaking after the man charged with dangerous driving causing the death of his daughter Nollaig O’Connor (26) walked free from court, acquitted of all charges, Charlie said he will never now be able to get over her untimely death.
“We were pulling ourselves together until the case came up, now we have nothing. No one has been found guilty for our daughter’s death. We will never get over this now,” he added.
The distraught Kilmead dad made his feelings clear when the verdict at his daughter’s court case was read out last week.
“I had to say something. This is the end of the road for us now. I am 74 years old and I doubt I will see 75 now. It has taken ten years off my life,” he predicted.
Pretty Nollaig (known as Noelle to her family) was killed as she drove home from Arklow, Co Wicklow, where she was an art teacher at the local secondary school, two years ago.
